How To Pick Cosmetic Packaging: Amber Glass, Clear Glass Or Amber PET?

Never use clear glass for long-term storage of retinol or plant extracts.

Amber PET

Colored masterbatch barely blocks UV light, with a filtering rate of merely 12%–16%. Our test found rosehip oil stored in amber PET turned rancid with strange odors after 2 months under natural light. Worse, the plastic tint fades over sunlight exposure, further lowering its weak light resistance. This plastic only fits mild, short-shelf daily care products.

Chemical Compatibility: Avoid Bulk Product Returns

Soda-Lime Glass (Amber & Clear)

Standard soda-lime glass is chemically stable, with zero risk of plasticizer or heavy metal leaching, matching most essences, hydrosols and essential oils. Note that ultra-thin glass may crack after long contact with high-alcohol formulas.

Amber PET

We only advise amber PET for mild cleansers or travel trial kits with a shelf life shorter than 3 months.
